Toyota Has a Hybrid Car Line at the Karawang Factory – PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has prepared a special line for the production of hybrid cars. The preparations are okay. It’s just a matter of waiting for the launch of a hybrid car made in Karawang which is planned to start in 2022. According to the Director of Corporate Affairs of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), it’s already ready. He added that Toyta was committed to producing hybrids.
Toyota Has a Hybrid Car Line at the Karawang Factory
Bob explained that the Toyota factory in Karawang already has a special branch line or subline for hybrid cars. The changes are not much. The production line is still integrated with the mainline ICE vehicles. Vehicles that have been Toyota’s mainstay of sales in Indonesia.
Bob directly revealed that, the concept is a subline. So the main line is still mixed with the conventional one, but there are sublines. The changes (production line) are also not too significant. He also emphasized that the production of Toyota hybrid cars in Indonesia is just a matter of time.
Bob added that apart from infrastructure, component supply chains are also a concern. This is because products that already have a hybrid line-up have the potential to be even more in demand.

In addition, Bob also stated that only the supply chain they had to prepare. That’s because the components must be sustainable. Toyota also has experience, in other countries the conventional estimate is 70 percent, the hybrid is 30 percent. But it turns out that after launch, the hybrid is actually 70.
It should be like that (hybrid models can be more in demand in Indonesia, ed), because of fuel efficiency.
Although it has been confirmed that it will produce hybrids in Indonesia. Bob has not specified the exact model of the vehicle that will be made at the Karawang factory. Currently, a number of Toyota models that have been stung by electrification in Indonesia are the Camry, Alphard, Camry, Corolla Altis, Corolla Cross, and Prius.
But some time ago, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, mentioned that the first localized hybrid car was the Kijang Innova.
Toyota has acknowledged that it will produce HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) vehicles locally from 2022 for the domestic and export markets.
The Minister of Industry last year also visited Japan to meet automotive principals. In the presentation that Agus presented at the time, there were several leaks of new models that would be launched by Japanese automotive manufacturers. Toyota will produce 10 hybrid cars, including 5 plug-in hybrid cars. One of the hybrid cars that will be produced in Indonesia is the Toyota Kijang Hybrid which is written in 2022.
